CSA Meeting Minutes - 03/12/2021

Dr. Jim Wipke (Prop L):

  • Future ready school website continuing to grow and change - more and more info everyday
  • $50 mil of renovations to middle school - make feel more like the high school
  • Ladue Advantage - feel it at LECC and High School since updated
  • Why?
    • Updated infrastructure
    • Enhanced safety features
    • ADA compliance
    • Educationally future ready
    • Student support for years to come
  • Current Conway gym
    • Small and outdated (2880 square feet)
    • Will turn into a flexible space for learning - details are tbd

  • New Conway gym/safe room
    • Larger more usable space for all students (6700 square feet)
    • Increased safety and fema rated 
  • Why now?
    • Construction costs likely to rise
    • Competitive bidding environment
    • Low interest rates
    • Can get max bag per dollar right now
    • Reduction in maintenance and utility costs
    • Educational advantages for ALL students Pre-K - 12
    • Community support
      • Survey Oct 2020
        • 79% favor or strongly favor
        • After learning costs - 78% still support
        • Top feature was the infrastructure improvements
  • Costs
    • Estimated increase in debt survive Levy: $.08 (from $.78 to $.86)
    • Per $100K home value - annual increase $15.20
    • Per $500k home value - annual increase $76.00
    • Ladue - lowest tax rate in all of St. Louis County
      • Will still be lowest after Prop L!
  • Questions/Comments:
    • Field concerns - water and space
    • Playground placement? Will it move?
    • Can the roof serve as usable green space?
    • Timeline? Hoping it will be expedited - looking at 9 month construction

Dr. Padberg Update:

  • Old gym space brainstorming
    • New cafeteria?
    • Move library?
    • Innovative space?
    • Collaborative 
  • Rachel Holtzman - Green roof farm option if flat roof on new gym - irrigation, roof load weight, railing
  • Outdoor project - tent and tables
    • Director of Facilities helping to figure out location
    • Get better idea as we figure out placement of hopeful new gym
    • New music teacher - interviewing 6 candidates

4th Grade Celebration/Memory Book Update (Melissa Margraf & Angie Bullock):

  • Wipke suggested 2 or 3 dates for outdoor celebrations
  • One virtual student parent is on committee to help plan/coordinate
  • Want to get teachers input and support since they will be running
  • Offer party to virtual students who will stay in their virtual cohort if chose to participate
  • Lunch provided - maybe sit on beach towel 
  • Memory book - 5 students who were no pics have agreed to be in the memory book

PDC Update (Angie Bullock):

  • District guidelines on PDC reps
  • Next year reps - Sarah Sordo to stay on and Leah Stutz will be  replacing Angie Bullock

  • Book Fair - online April 12 - 25, earn scholastic credit

  • Boxed lunch next week for teachers for conferences
